FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is the source of ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water?
The Amanda Hills Spring in Etna, Ohio is the source of ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water. The spring is located on a large parcel of land which is dedicated to pristine water production. The location has no current or history of agricultural fertilizer run off or animal waste run off. ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water meets or exceeds all EPA and FDA regulations to assure purity and safety, and is regularly tested by the National Testing Laboratories whose reports can be found online at www.ecochoicewater.com. In addition, our aseptic packaging technique allow the spring water and packaging to be sealed together and sterilized, preventing exposure to any micro-organisms.

What are ECO-Choice cartons made of?
ECO-Choice cartons are made of 75% paperboard, 21% Polyethylene (a liquid barrier), and 4% aluminum. These cartons are specifically designed to provide protection from light, aroma, and flavor migration into the package from products stored near the carton.

Are ECO-Choice cartons recyclable?
ECO-Choice cartons are aseptic packaging and are recyclable in a majority of US markets. These containers should be disposed of with other traditionally recyclable materials.

What sizes (of cartons) of ECO-Choice water are available?
ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water is available in 500ml (16.9 oz.) and 1 Liter (33.8 oz) cartons. At retail locations, both package sizes are available for sale as singles or in 6-pack carriers. In some markets, the 500ml cartons are also available in 24-count cases and the 1 Liter in 12-count cases. From our online store, you can purchase 500mL in 24-count cases and the 1L in 12-count cases.

How do I store ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water?
ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water requires no special storage conditions. Since the cartons are aseptic, refrigeration is not required to preserve quality or shelf life; however, most consumers prefer the taste of bottled water when it is consumed cold. When storing the containers in coolers with ice, you should not experience any negative impact to the container.

Will ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water cartons fit in my automobile’s cup holder?
The base of an ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water carton measures approximately 2 3/8 by 2 5/8 so it will fit in cup holders designed to hold oversize cups but it will not fit in the more traditional smaller size holders. Since the carton is basically a square container, however, it will not roll off a car seat the way traditional cylindrical containers do.

Why does ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water cost more than some other brands?
ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water is premium "spring" water (not purified drinking water) and is packaged in an environmentally responsible package that simply costs more to produce than PET bottles. The brand is priced competitively with other premium brands such as Fiji and Evian and costs less than many other "boutique" bottle water brands.

Why is an ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water carton considered an "environmentally responsible" package?
"Environmental responsibility" in terms of packaging is the result of many factors, not just recyclability. ECO-Choice Natural Spring Water cartons are recyclable but they also are made from a renewable resource (trees), not from oil based PET. Furthermore, the wood used to make ECO-Choice cartons is harvested from managed forest which means that for each tree that is harvested to make the paperboard material, two or more trees are planted. ECO-Choice cartons are produced in locations which utilize very efficient electrical grids where the electricity is generated by "wind energy" not oil or coal. In fact, ECO-Choice cartons can boast a zero-carbon footprint as they leave the shipping dock at the site at which they are produced. Finally, because of their light weight and brick shape design, ECO-Choice cartons utilize less energy than PET bottles when transported and stored in retailer warehouses.

What are the different types of bottled waters?
The FDA (United States Department of Food & Drug Administration), which regulates bottled water in the United States, classifies bottled water by its origin. Below are the waters found most often on retail shelves in America:

  • Artesian Water – this water originates from a natural underground, pressurized chamber called an aquifer. Confining layers of rock, sand and earth within this aquifer help protect water from external contamination. Without access to the Earth’s surface, the aquifer must be tapped to collect the contents.
  • Purified Water – this water is typically sourced from municipal water that has been treated to remove chemicals and microbes. These treatment processes also remove minerals and nutrients from the water which subsequently must be added back into the water.
  • Spring Water – this water also comes from underground sources that naturally flow to the Earth’s surface via a porthole. After emerging at the surface, the water is immediately collected for bottling or it forms a small body of water. Eco-Choice Natural Spring Water is brought to the surface at a refreshing and crisp 48 degrees.

Eco-Choice Natural Spring Water uses a standard "best by" date for all water sold at retail locations. The "best by" date can be found on the top of each beverage carton. While the federal government does not require an expiration date, certain states have individual requirements. According to the United States Department of Food and Agriculture (FDA), which regulates bottled water in the United States:

"Bottled water is considered to have an indefinite safety shelf life if it is produced in accordance with Current Good Manufacturing Practice (FDA regulations for the processing and bottling of bottled drinking water) and quality standard regulations and is stored in an unopened, properly sealed container.
